Seaton with Slingley Parish Council approved its budget for 2022/2023 in the sum of £12,638 at a meeting of the Parish Council held on 19 January 2022.
The introduction by Central Government of a Local Council Tax Reduction Scheme grant which replaced the Council Tax Benefit Scheme significantly changed the calculation of the tax-base upon which Council Tax is calculated. Town and parish councils are not financially independent and are reliant upon Central Government grant support to compensate for the loss of tax-base. The grant support is paid to Durham County Council who then redistribute the grant to parishes but the County Council is under no obligation to do this.
Members were advised that the LCTRS grant for 2022/2023 had reduced from £243 to £228 which was a reduction of £15 from the previous year and the tax base had increased from 415.1 to 416.7.
Members agreed a 0.50% increase to the 2021/2022 precept.
Seaton with Slingley Parish Council have set a budget of £12,638. This is made up of a Local Council Tax Reduction Scheme grant of £228 together with a precept of £12,145 giving a total request of £12,373 from Durham County Council. The Parish Council will also utilise £228 from reserves.
